The armwrestling competition Skellefteå Kraft World Challenge, is to be held in Skellefteå (Lapland), March 8 (international women day) 2012.
Together with cooperation partner Skellefteå Kraft the ninth-fold world champion Heidi Andersson is going to realize her dream contest in Skellefteå, Sweden on the International Women's Day, when she celebrates her 20 years as an armwrestler.
- Skellefteå Kraft World Challenge is so much more than just an armwrestling tournaemnt. It contributes to gender equality and the expression of "nothing is impossible". In Sweden we see it as a given that women are strong, proud elite athletes, but it is far from a given world wide, says Heidi Andersson.
Skellefteå Kraft World Challenge is an international context between Sweden, Russia and Lithuania, which is three of the world's best armwrestling nations.
Totally, there will be nine female armwrestlers. Everyone meets everyone except within their own team, and you get a point for each match won. Each match is decided by best of three.
- The goal is to make Skellefteå Kraft World Challenge an annual recurring event and that in the future it will develop into a World Cup.
It is, in turn, a further step towards the Olympics, says Heidi.
