" Here is a comparison of total medals recieved per country in armwrestling when compared to other sports that require strength, power, speed, and technique.
World Armwrestling championships 2009

Poland 1
Turkey 1
Latvia 1
2008 olympic wrestling
country total medals
Russia 11
Japan 6
Ukrain 5
Kazahkstan 5
Georgia 4
Bulgaria 4
USA 3
Turkey 2
Armenia 2
Belarus 2
Population of Country that recieved medals in all three sports.
Country total population
Russia 140,702,000
Turkey 71,994,000
Ukrain 45,994,000
Kazahkstan 15,340,000
total medals recieved per capita
Kazahkstan 1 medal per 900,000 people.
Ukrain 1 medal per 1.9 million people.
Russia 1 medal per 3.1 million people.
Turkey 1 medal per 6.5 million people.
USA stats
4 total medals in armwrestling, wrestling, weightlifting
total population to pull from 303 million.
per capita is 1 medal per 75 million people.
So total number of people to pull from doesnt seem to be a big factor.
Genetics? Most people have a 50/50 distribution of slow twich vs fast twitch muscle fibers, but its well known that people from Kenya often have a higher percentage of slow twich muscle fibers that give them an advantage in marathons, but a disadvantage in strength. Maybe just the opposite occurs in certain populations.
Interest, popularity and sport promotion are other factors I can think of. If I counted correctly it appears there is somewhere between 100-130 tournaments per year in the USA when you count sanctioned and unsanctioned. I would be interested in seeing how this compares to the other country's. "
